I run my business a little differently than most pet sitters in that I charge for my time rather than individualizing services and add-ons. When you book with me you pay one rate regardless of how many pets you have or special tasks they require. This means no extra dog rate, no upcharge for special needs care, and no worries about leaving me with extra cleaning tasks or behavioral quirks. If you feel your family has an unusual amount of complication which would require more than the standard visit time, reach out to me before booking and we can work out a plan that fits your needs.
One of my core values personally is to leave everything better than I found it. When I first started out with housesitting, I believed it was important to leave the home precisely how I found it, and as such, I would take extra notes on things like pillow placement, the style in which bedding was folded, or which hook I took a leash from, and make sure to return those items to the same condition upon my departure. I found that this method would sometimes backfire when I had a client call me one day to ask if I had even been there. I found that the solution was to take that same level of effort and apply it toward making small improvements such as refilling ice trays, removing existing pet waste, or tidying up where the family may have left in a hurry to catch a flight.
Animals are creatures of habit . It can be often be very stressful to have a disruption in your routine, and doubly so when it happens while your family is away. I myself thrive on routine and set expectations. I find it's mutually beneficial when I can follow your pet's normal schedule during my visits. Typically during our initial meet & greet visit I will ask that you review any set routine, favorite activities, and usual sleeping or hiding places your pet may have. While my schedule may not always allow for exact timing, I will always do my best to keep your pet's day as "normal" as possible.
With a heavy background in photography, I have a habit of compulsively taking pictures when a photogenic moment arises. I've found that most clients find this to be a special perk of my service and enjoy when I send them the photos I take while caring for their pets. The quantity of photos I send can vary drastically depending on lighting and task load, which means each visit might see anywhere from two to thirty photos. While most clients have been happy to receive 30 photos of their beloved pet, I understand large quantities of photos sent regularly throughout the stay might be overwhelming or distracting to some. Please let me know if you would prefer to either not receive photos, to limit photo updates to one or two per visit, or to save all photos for delivery at the end of the stay.
It's always rough leaving your favorite family members behind and trusting others with their care. It helps to have someone who provides reliable updates and is always reachable for questions or requests throughout the stay. My main mode of contact is text message and I typically reply within the hour throughout the day. Additionally, I will make sure to stay reachable without delay throughout shorter visits in case you need something while I am on site. I can also be reached all day via email or Facebook Messenger, and a phone call is always an option in case of real emergency.
Everyone has different personalities and needs, especially our animals. What works for some may not for others. A feral colony of cats might be happy with a quick freshening of food and water while keeping pleasantries to a reasonable distance, or a senior dog might need to slow down a bit with assistance walking outside to do his business before his meds time. A doberman rescue processing trauma after a history of abuse might need patience and trust building exercises or a diabetic cat could need more frequent visits and Insulin injections. Whatever the story, I'd like to hear it, and together we can come up with the right plan of action for your pet's individual care needs.
